The Board conducts medium- and long-term original research on a broad range of payments topics to inform policymakers, the industry, and the public, and to contribute to the academic literature in economics and finance. Research may involve theoretical and/or empirical analysis of payment system design; risk management in large-value payment systems; trends in the use of various forms of payment such as cash, checks, credit and debit cards; the relationships among various payment and settlement systems; and technological innovation in the provision of payment and settlement services.
