Immunization & Health Care Professionals
Immunization Program staff work with primary care providers to ensure they have the resources needed to vaccinate their patients across the lifespan. We provide:
- All CDC recommended pediatric vaccines for any child at no cost. Providers must enroll in the federal Vermont Child Vaccine Program (VCVP).
- All CDC recommended adult vaccines, except influenza, for adults age 19 to 64 at no cost. Providers must enroll in the state Vermont Adult Vaccine Program (VAVP).
- Oversight and review of all vaccine orders.
- Education and support for vaccine storage and handling.
- IQI - Immunization Quality Improvement for providers emphasizes process steps for on-time vaccination.
- Training and support in the use of the statewide Immunization Registry.
- Training and education opportunities including comprehensive VCVP/VAVP provider education, biennial Infectious Disease/Immunization conferences, and updates after ACIP meetings.

Congratulations to the Vermont primary care practices with high immunization coverage in 2019!
The Vermont Immunization Program recognizes primary care practices achieving high immunization coverage rates as defined by the Healthy People 2020 goals and evaluated using the Vermont Immunization Registry data. Practices are recognized at a Gold or Silver level based on their coverage.
Every Vermont Child Vaccine Program (VCVP) enrolled practice was assessed using the following:
- Have 15 or more active patients in the “Child” age range of 19-35 months and/or
- Have 15 or more active patients in the “Teen” age range of 13-15 years and
- Submit data to the Vermont Immunization Registry per 18 V.S.A.

Vermont is a universal state, where the state Immunization Program purchases vaccines from the CDC federal contract at no cost to providers, for use in all children and adults.
This page serves as a resource for provider offices enrolled in Vermont Child Vaccine Program (VCVP) and Vermont Adult Vaccine Program (VAVP).
Failure to store and handle vaccines properly can reduce vaccine potency, resulting in inadequate immune responses in patients and poor protection against disease.
IQI - Immunization Quality Improvement for providers
The Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program works to identify the hepatitis B status of pregnant women to prevent transmission of hepatitis B infection to infants.
Vermont is a universal vaccine state, providing vaccines to enrolled providers at no cost for use with all patients, regardless of insurance status.
