Laboratory Emergency Preparedness

Laboratory Emergency Preparedness

The Vermont Department of Health Laboratory responds to biological, radiological and chemical events in Vermont. During these responses, the laboratory works with the Health Department and its partners, including first responders, law enforcement and other state and federal public health entities. The laboratory also maintains a network of sentinel hospital laboratories. This promotes statewide laboratory communication.

The laboratory trains and supports sentinel hospital laboratories in:

  • Specimen collection, storage and shipment
  • Evidence-control measures
  • Recognition of chemical and biological terrorism agents
