Emergency Financial First Aid Kit
The Emergency Financial First Aid Kit (EFFAK), a joint publication from Operation Hope and FEMA, can help you reduce the financial impact of disasters on you and your family. This product provides financial advice on managing finances, insights on your credit score, and sets expectations on what do in the event of a disaster. This webinar will walk you through the process of becoming financially prepared for all hazards. Additional resources are available at Ready.gov. Available in Spanish.

Disaster Preparedness for Small Businesses
Small businesses need to be prepared for disasters of any type. Small business owners will learn disaster preparedness tips to help them through the new year and beyond.

A key element to successfully responding to and recovering from a major disaster is the overall preparedness of individual citizens, families and the community. With that in mind, we invite you to participate in a series of ‘What would you do?’ scenarios to assess your level of preparedness. These tabletop activities are intended to be low-stress conversation starters for the whole community. Each scenario includes discussion questions for the activity, a facilitator guide and some helpful links to enhance individual and community preparedness.

FEMA’s National Youth Preparedness Council (YPC) was created in 2012 to bring together youth leaders interested in supporting disaster preparedness and making a difference in their communities with national and local preparedness projects. Since 2012 many states, counties and municipalities have adopted this model to form their own YPCs.  

The Region II YPC supports FEMA’s ongoing commitment to involve the youth of America in preparedness-related activities and resilience. Students from New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and our Tribal Nations come together to implement preparedness projects in an effort to make their communities better prepared and more resilient.

Our capabilities were tested in 2012 when Hurricane Sandy affected the entire East Coast from Florida to Maine, as well as states as far inland as West Virginia, Ohio and Indiana. The storm’s effects were extensive, leaving millions without power, destroying hundreds of thousands of homes and causing tens of billions in damages. Read more on our Historic Disaster Page.
