Bottled Water

Pursuant to Public Act 093-0866, Safe Bottled Water Act, effective January 1, 2005, all Illinois water-bottling plants and private water sources used for bottled or vended water must have a license issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health. If a person has a valid water-bottling plant license issued by the Department, additional license fees for a private water source operator based and operating at the same address shall not be required. Every water-bottling plant located outside Illinois that sells or distributes bottled water in the State of Illinois must annually register with the Department.

Facilities bottling and or distributing bottled water that are located in Illinois are licensed and inspections are conducted yearly. The facility is responsible for conducting continual product laboratory testing on the product and providing this information to the inspectors during the inspection.

Facilities bottling and or distributing bottled water that are located outside of Illinois are registered with the Department. This includes out of state and out of country facilities.
