NCA History

The National Cemetery Administration (NCA) traces its roots to the Civil War. In 1862, Congress enacted legislation that authorized the President to purchase "cemetery grounds" to be used as national cemeteries "for soldiers who shall have died in the service of the country." Today, there are over 4 million Veterans of every war and conflict buried in one of the national cemeteries. Learn more about NCA’s honorable history.
