Opportunities for Healthcare Professionals during the COVID-19 Outbreak

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, many healthcare professionals have expressed an interest in helping. There are three great options for healthcare professionals who want to join the COVID-19 response – and there are many opportunities for lay people to serve as well.

  • Register with ESAR-VHP in Your StateBy registering with the Emergency System for Advance Registration of Volunteer Health Professionals (ESAR-VHP) in your state, your credentials and qualifications will be verified in advance so that you are able to serve on a moment's notice — within your state and across state lines — to provide needed help during an emergency. With a volunteer registration program, volunteers and emergency response officials alike are free to spend more time contributing to the cause-at-hand and less time verifying volunteers' identity and credentials. • Join the Medical Reserve Corps: Medical Reserve Corps volunteers work as units within their communities to strengthen public health, reduce vulnerability, build resilience, and improve preparedness, response and recovery capabilities. MRC units across the country are finding different ways to help their communities during COVID-19 response, including staffing call centers, drive through clinics, and more.  Reach out to an MRC unit in your area to find out how you can help.  Many units are currently responding, and unit leaders may or may not be able to respond to your inquiry immediately.
