You may be eligible if:
- Your gross household income is equal to or less than 185% of the Federal Poverty Level. OR
- You have children and get the VT Earned Income Tax Credit.
If your household includes someone 60+ or with a disability:
You may still qualify if your income is over limit, but we'll consider the resources you own (e.g., bank accounts and vehicles) — with some exceptions (e.g., your home and certain retirement accounts). Definition of disability.
If EVERYONE applying is at least 60 years old or getting disability benefits:
You may qualify for 3SquaresVT in a SNAP - a new, easier way to get and keep 3SquaresVT benefits.

How much you can get:
It depends on your household size, income, and expenses.
- The average monthly benefit per household is about $235.
- The average monthly benefit for a senior living alone is about $163.
How monthly payments work:
- If anyone in your household is under 65, your benefits will be added to a Vermont EBT Card.
- If everyone in your household is 65 or older or receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI), your benefits will be deposited as cash into your bank account.
If you get 3SquaresVT:
- You qualify for free employment and training supports through ICAN.
- Your children may qualify for free meals at school.
They'll qualify as long as you get a monthly 3SquaresVT benefit and your child's school participates in a federal meals program. We'll notify the school that your child qualifies, unless you ask us not to. You won't have to fill out the school's meal application form.

3SquaresVT is Vermont's name for the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (or SNAP) — a program of the U.S Department of Agriculture (USDA).
