September 11, 2022

(WSET) — Many Virginia lawmakers and emergency services took the time to reflect on the 21st anniversary of September 11, 2001, on Sunday.

Senator Tim Kaine, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee released a statement ahead of the anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

"Ahead of the anniversary of the September 11th attacks, we remember the Americans we tragically lost in New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia and honor the many Virginians who have served and sacrificed so much since then in defense of our nation. These sacrifices are why I’m so committed to supporting our nation’s servicemembers, military families, and veterans. We owe it to them to help minimize the risk of a conflict erupting and ensure the United States will prevail decisively in any conflict we must fight", Kaine said.

Kaine has been a leading voice in Congress on the need to get rid of outdated authorizations for use of Military Force in order to prevent future misuse.

"Today, we honor the lives we tragically lost on 9/11 and the heroes who have served and sacrificed so much since then. We remember the American spirit that united us on that dark day. We will never forget," said Kaine.

Governor Glenn Youngkin also released a statement on Twitter.

"On the 21st anniversary of 9/11, we remember the 2,977 lives lost. The worst terrorist attack in American history on American soil reminds us that at any moment our freedom and the liberty that we cherish, could be in jeopardy," Youngkin said.

6th district Congressman Ben Cline also released a statement on Twitter:
