Beatty on Education
As a former college administrator, I wholeheartedly support programs that ensure access to high-quality education, from childhood to adulthood. Our nation's elementary, secondary, and higher education institutions provide the next generation with the much-needed skills and opportunities to compete in the 21st century economy. Making a better system for them also means looking for avenues to address the racial and gender disparities in our education system from pre-K through college.
Highlights of Beatty Work on Education
- Author of the 21st Century STEM for Girls and Underrepresented Minorities Act to provide science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) school programs for girls and other groups underrepresented in STEM fields.
- Leads the effort in Congress to provide funding for the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Excellence in Research Program within the National Science Foundation (NSF).
- Secured tens of millions of dollars in funding for Head Start programs in the Columbus area.

Today, Congressional Black Caucus Chairwoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) and the Congressional Black Caucus issued the following statement:
“This bipartisan legislation is the culmination of strategic efforts and leadership from the Congressional Black Caucus and underscores the historic nature of our efforts to stem the tide of gun violence in our communities.
As President Biden reportedly closes in on a plan of partially canceling student debt, the pressure on the administration is mounting to ensure that Black borrowers, who are disproportionally saddled with student loans, will be helped.
On the 2020 campaign trail, now President Joe Biden won over the hearts and votes of many by promising to forgive up to $10,000 in student loan debt per person.
Now, as he gets closer to making a decision on just how much forgiveness he’s willing to give, the Congressional Black Caucus is dialing up the pressure on the President to show Black borrowers some grace.
“Judge Jackson has a demonstrated record of excellence. I believe, based upon her work as a trial judge when I served on the Court of Appeals, that she will adjudicate based on the facts and the law and not as a partisan.”
-Former President Barack Obama
