Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Greg Murphy, M.D. (R-NC) spoke on the House floor in support of H.R. 3173, The Improving Seniors' Timely Access to Care Act which passed the House by voice vote earlier this afternoon. If signed into law, the bipartisan bill would establish an electronic prior authorization program for Medicare Advantage (MA) plans that would allow for real-time decisions, streamline care, and improve patient access to certain items and services.

In his floor remarks, Rep. Murphy slammed the prior authorization process, noting that the current bureaucratic system delays patient care, strains hospital resources, and is a significant burden on providers. Watch the floor speech HERE.

Rep. Greg Murphy, M.D. released the following statement following the passage of H.R. 3173, The Improving Seniors' Timely Access to Care Act:

“This is an important day,” said Rep. Murphy. “This is an important day particularly for patients because we’re one step closer to removing bureaucrats from healthcare in America. As a practicing surgeon of more than 30 years, I cannot tell you how many times I have had to delay critical patient care because of a broken bureaucratic process that limits our resources, harms patients, and only benefits insurance companies. This bill turns back the clock on bureaucratic red tape and makes meaningful and appropriate reform to clinical decision making. I look forward to the day when we can fully return the autonomy and joy of taking care of patients back to providers.”
