Community Funding Project Requests

FY 2023 Appropriations Requests:


Project: Anne Arundel County 

  • Description: The funding would be used for the juvenile pre-arrest diversion Fresh START Program is designed to decriminalize behaviors while holding youth accountable, reducing racial and ethnic disparities in charging, and providing early intervention and services to youth impacted by trauma, mental health, and/or substance abuse needs. 
  • Amount: $400,000

Project: LifeStyles of Maryland Foundation, Inc.

  • Description: The funding would be used to support Phase III of the Southern Crossing project, which will renovate an additional 13 transitional supportive housing units for 25 individuals to have access to safe and affordable housing as well as provide supportive services such as financial management, credit repair, workforce development and behavioral health services that will help residents successfully transition to market rate rent at the successful completion of the program.

  • Description:  The funding would be used to renovate College’s 30-year-old aquatic holding facility to meet the needs of the new and growing aquatic sciences program.

  • Description: The funding would be used to renovate an historic County-owned schoolhouse that is home to the Ralph J. Bunche Community Center, an accredited 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established by concerned citizens of the community.

  • Description: The funding would be used to address capital upgrades that would allow Sotterley to operation more efficiently and effectively as it serves its community.

  • Description: The funding would be used to reconstruct Maryland Route 5 from Maryland Route 246 and 471.

  • Description:  The funding would be used for to purchase water tanks for rural parts of the County that do not have an adequate water supply for use by the fire department.

  • Description: The funding would be used for the Best Buddies in Maryland Inclusion Project for Students with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities to support chapters at 10 elementary, middle, or high schools throughout Maryland’s 5th District.

  • Description: The funding would be used to renovate the Behavioral Health Unit. 
  • Amount: $975,000

  • Description:  The funding would be used to introduce individuals with disabilities to culinary fundamentals while also integrating workplace readiness skills needed to gain and retain employment.
  • Amount: $300,000

  • Description: The funding would be used to bring KKI’s multi-disciplinary approach to a closer location to schools in Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s Counties.

FY 2022 Appropriations Requests:

The House Committee on Appropriations announced that Members of Congress were allowed to submit up to 10 community funding requests. Congressman Hoyer received many requests, some of which were not eligible under the criteria established by Committee.

All requests submitted by Congressman Hoyer to the Appropriations Committee are posted below. Members will be required to certify that neither they nor their immediate family have a financial interest in the requests made.

    Description: The funding would be used for the Institute that will focus on restorative justice and practices and will train staff, faculty, and community members.

    Description: The funding would be used to replace one mile of tuberculated cast iron water main. These funds would support design, construction, replacement meters, and related costs for the impacted pipes.

The House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure (T&I) announced that they will formally accept requests for projects from House Members for surface transportation authorization legislation.
