NEWSLETTER: Putting People Over Politics with the Inflation Reduction Act

A MESSAGE FROM CONGRESSMAN HOYER

Today, House Democrats passed the landmark Inflation Reduction Act, a monumental achievement that will deliver significant results for families in Maryland’s Fifth Congressional District. I was proud to help send this legislation to President Biden’s desk to sign into law. The Inflation Reduction Act is part of Democrats’ historic record of achievement this Congress—the fourth leg of our table of support and opportunity for the American people, complementing the already-enacted American Rescue Plan, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and CHIPS and Science Act.

The Inflation Reduction Act will help bring down costs for Maryland families. For the first time in history, Medicare will be able to negotiate with manufacturers to lower the price of prescription drugs, and cap insulin costs at $35 per month for Medicare beneficiaries. I was proud to join my Democratic colleagues to help lower health care costs for our district and ensure more Marylanders can access affordable, quality health care.

Additionally, this bill will lower energy costs by investing $369 billion in clean, reliable energy while helping our country act on the climate crisis. Climate change is a threat to our people, and with this investment Democrats are making clear that we intend to fight this threat head on. The climate provisions in this bill will also reduce carbon emissions by approximately 40% by 2030, a major step forward in our efforts to mitigate the impact of climate change. Lastly, this legislation is fully paid for by making the wealthiest corporations pay their fair share in taxes and will reduce the deficit.

I was proud to bring this tremendous piece of legislation to the House Floor today. Democrats are putting people over politics by passing legislation to meet the needs of our families and our communities. From health care to good-paying jobs to protecting our environment, I thank the Biden-Harris Administration for their leadership on the Inflation Reduction Act and look forward to the difference it will make in the lives of our people in MD-05.

As always, I encourage all Fifth-District residents to continue sharing their concerns and feedback with me by contacting my office or connecting with me on FacebookTwitter, or Instagram. If you are need of assistance, such as with help accessing veterans’ benefits or have another issue regarding a federal agency, and you wish for my office to place an inquiry on your behalf, please complete the casework request form by clicking here.

Sincerely Yours,
