It’s with great pleasure that I invite your students to compete in the 2022 Congressional Art Competition.
Each year, the U.S. House of Representatives hosts the Congressional Art Competition. Established in 1982, the competition encourages high school students from across the country to showcase their art. Winners of the competition from each congressional district will have their art displayed in the Cannon House Office Building tunnel, which leads into the United States Capitol. I strongly encourage your students participate in this year’s competition. To enter, please have your students complete the attached student release form and drop their artwork off at my district offices no later than May 4, 2022.
A student may choose to submit a piece in any of the following mediums:
- Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.
- Drawings: colored pencil, pencil, ink, marker, pastels, charcoal
- Prints: lithographs, silk screen, block prints
- Mixed Media: use of 2+ mediums such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc.
- Two-dimensional collages
- Computer-generated art
- Photographs
This competition is open to all high school students across Michigan’s 12th Congressional District. While the purpose of this competition is to express the creativity and talent of our community in our nation’s capital, there are some restrictions:
- Artwork must be two-dimensional
- Artwork can not be larger than 26 inches high, 26 inches wide, and 4 inches deep (including the frame)
- The artwork may not weigh more than 15 pounds
- Artwork must be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate U.S. copyright laws. Any entry that has been copied from an existing photo or image (including a painting, graphic, or advertisement), that was created by someone other than the student is a violation of the competition rules and will not be accepted.
- A student must fill out the “Student Information Release Form” and attach it to the back of their artwork
