Rep. Garbarino Statement on New Cybersecurity Requirements for Critical Pipeline Owners and Operators

May 27, 2021

WASHINGTON - May 27, 2021 - Today, Congressman Andrew R. Garbarino issued the following statement on the Department of Homeland Security’s Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) newly announced Security Directive for critical pipeline owners and operators:

"DHS’ announcement of the new cybersecurity requirements for critical pipeline owners and operators is an important step forward in enhancing the resilience of our nation’s pipeline infrastructure. As our nation saw following the Colonial Pipeline ransomware attack, the threat is imminent, and we must act now to secure our most critical infrastructure to ensure the continuation of lifeline services to our economy and national security.

As our nation’s lead Federal civilian cybersecurity agency, CISA must have immediate awareness of cyber attacks in order to coordinate with Sector Risk Management Agencies, like TSA, and support industry in response and mitigation measures. I encourage CISA and TSA to step up to the plate and work with industry to enforce this Security Directive to increase pipelines’ resilience to cyber threats."
