Library of Congress Book Surplus Program

I am pleased to announce my office’s participation in the Library of Congress Surplus Books Program. I am proud to promote a lifetime of love for reading for our young scholars and provide this resource to local libraries hoping to expand their collections for community members young and old.

Located in the heart of our nation’s capital, the Library of Congress is one of the largest collections of books in the entire world. The Library receives multiple copies of nearly every book published and stores them for archival or research purposes, but the librarians frequently have duplicate, unneeded copies of new, unopened books on hand that are sent to the Surplus Books Program.

My office stands ready to assist eligible organizations in California’s 50th Congressional District that fit into one of the following criteria:

  • Full-time, tax supported or nonprofit educational institutions: schools, school systems, colleges, universities, museums, or public libraries.
  • Agencies of local, state, or federal government.
  • Nonprofit institutions or organizations that have tax-exempt status under the provisions of section 501 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954 [see CFR 101-44.207 (a) (17)] and that operate a library and/or research center open to the public.

Any school, library or non-profit in the 50th Congressional District that is interested in learning more about Congressman Issa’s Library of Congress Surplus Book Program, please contact Issa staff member Chris Mika at 760-304-7575
