Merkley Statement on Hispanic Heritage Month
WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley released a Medium post celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month in Oregon.
In the post, entitled “Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month in Oregon,” Senator Merkley highlights the contributions of the Hispanic community in Oregon and shares the stories of three prominent Oregonians who are making an impact in communities across the state.
“During Hispanic Heritage Month, we pay tribute to the Hispanic community and celebrate the impact these individuals have made on our nation,” said Merkley. “From sciences to sports, and from the arts to our economy, Latinos and Latinas have shaped our national identity—and Oregon’s. They have led movements that have made this country more fair and more equal, and they have served with honor and distinction, leading in boardrooms, classrooms, battlefields, the Supreme Court, and the Halls of Congress.”
