The Committee on the Judiciary’s internship program offers both undergraduate and law students an opportunity to experience the operations of a congressional committee firsthand and learn about the important role that House committees in the House of Representatives play in the legislative process.

The Committee has jurisdiction over a wide range of legislative and oversight issues which include constitutional amendments, litigation reform, patent and trademark law, federal criminal law, federal civil rights law, anti-terrorism, immigration and naturalization, and antitrust. Prior to your application, please familiarize yourself with the different subcommittees and their respective issue areas.

Internship applications should include a current resume, list of references, and letter of introduction which contains the following information:

  1. Why you are interested in an internship with the Committee
  2. Your dates and hours of availability
  3. At least one paragraph explaining your political views – specifically on issues falling under the Committee’s jurisdiction

Applications can be submitted by filling out the form below.

Deadlines for applications are the following:

Summer 2022: February 25th, 2022
Fall 2022: TBD

The Committee considers internship applications for both the spring and fall semesters as well as the summer months. Summer is a popular time for students to seek internships, and selection is highly competitive. Students are encouraged to submit materials well in advance, as applications for later time frames are considered on a rolling basis. Please note in your application which semester you are applying for consideration.

Interested candidates should be aware that there is a Majority (Democrat) and a Minority (Republican) office within the committee. Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply with the office which most appropriately reflects their political views. Those interested in interning for the Minority, can find their contact information on their website.
