ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - President Biden's infrastructure bill has passed Congress. The House approved it late Saturday night with a 228 to 206 vote.

...Six members of the leadership of the Progressive caucus also voted against the bill. But other members of the Progressive caucus, including New Mexico Democrats Terea Leger Fernandez and Stansbury voted yes.

The first group of people who fled Afghanistan after Taliban forces took over the country has arrived in the United States.

Fort Bliss, located in El Paso, is one of three military installations that will take in the Afghan evacuees. Fort Bliss' Range Complex, based in Dona Ana County, will house many of the evacuees.

Gregory Aldoph was standing next to his car at Expo New Mexico on Tuesday morning when he learned his application had been approved and his landlord would be receiving $2,640 to cover Aldoph’s rent for the next six months.

“Blessings to everybody. That’s good,” he said at the event at the state fairgrounds where people were applying for assistance from the Emergency Rental Assistance Program, or ERAP. “That means I don’t have to pay no rent. Six months of rent. That is a relief.”

Two New Mexico lawmakers are urging residents impacted by COVID-19 to apply for rental assistance. Senator Martin Heinrich and Representative Melanie Stansbury were at EXPO New Mexico Tuesday morning. They are encouraging eligible New Mexico renters to apply for the nearly $200 million available in federal rental assistance.

Applicants can receive up to 15 months of assistance which can go towards unpaid, current, future rent, and utilities.
