Walberg Presses Granholm on Non-Answers About Line 5

April 28, 2022

Washington, D.C.—Today, Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) pressed Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm about her lack of answers regarding the importance of the Line 5 pipeline. At today’s hearing, Secretary Granholm repeatedly refused to address Line 5’s economic benefits when asked by multiple members of the Energy and Commerce Committee. “As a former Governor of Michigan and a native of Canada, Secretary Granholm is uniquely situated to understand the importance of cross-border pipelines to our economy and our energy security,” said Walberg. “So, today I posed to her a straightforward question: does Line 5 have an economic impact on Michigan and the country? The answer is: absolutely. The fact that she refused to answer it, on multiple occasions, is concerning. The Secretary of Energy should be able to take a stand for existing energy infrastructure like Line 5 that generates affordable supply, good-paying jobs, and significant economic activity.”
