Press Release

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R – Richvale) announced a $164,450.00 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services (SAMHSA) Rural Emergency Medical Services Training Grant to Plumas District Hospital. This grant will assist the district to recruit and train EMS personnel in rural areas with a particular focus on addressing mental and substance use disorders.

“Across the nation, rural residents face additional struggles that their urban counterparts typically don’t, such as recruitment to rural areas, heightened workforce shortages, increased premiums, and longer wait times and distance challenges for service. Rural residents in Plumas County have been through immense trauma due to catastrophic wildfires. I am pleased that this grant will be used to ensure emergency responders can be better equipped to serve those in need of emergency health services tailored to mental health or substance abuse intervention needs,” said Congressman LaMalfa.

Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California’s First Congressional District, including Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties.
