Press Release

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after the House passed H.R. 849, the Protecting Seniors’ Access to Medicare Act. This legislation repeals Obamacare’s Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB), an unelected panel of bureaucrats tasked with cutting Medicare spending without any Congressional oversight and no obligation to engage in public notice or comment.

LaMalfa said: “IPAB is yet another misguided component of Obamacare. If triggered, this provision would authorize a board of 15 unelected bureaucrats to make sweeping reductions to Medicare spending, with no congressional oversight or accountability. These arbitrary cuts pose a significant threat to senior’s access to care, potentially limiting which medical treatments and services doctors can offer.  Many on both sides of the aisle agree that IPAB was a bad idea when it was created, and it’s a bad idea now. I am glad that the House is taking action to eliminate this dangerous provision.”

Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California’s First Congressional District, including Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties.
