Issues

Transportation and Infrastructure

As a Member of the House Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure, I understand that infrastructure investment is critical to Texas’ 22nd Congressional District, Texas, and our nation. My work on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee gives me the opportunity to focus on numerous issues such as highway development, national security, and flood risk management. Smartly addressing transportation challenges in forward-thinking and innovative ways remains one of the most important issues as our district continues to experience tremendous growth.  I am proud to serve on the Subcommittees on Highways & Transit; Aviation; and Railroads, Pipelines, & Hazardous Materials. Criminal Justice Reform

Throughout my 30 years in law enforcement, I’ve seen first-hand the human and monetary cost of high recidivism rates and our broken criminal justice system. While Sheriff of Fort Bend County, I created cutting edge recidivism reduction programs like HVAC and welding training programs for non-violent Fort Bend County jail inmates, at no cost to taxpayers. These programs gave inmates the skills needed to gain employment following their release. I will continue using this experience in Congress to be a voice for criminal justice reform. Immigration

Having served in law enforcement over the last thirty years, I bring a different perspective to the immigration debate. The stories that I could share of Americans that have been hurt by illegal immigration are horrific. President Biden’s disastrous open-border policies are straining local and state resources left to deal with the consequences of illegal immigration.  This unchecked immigration presents an unprecedented threat to our nation’s health and security. Biden’s ill-conceived immigration policies have allowed untested and COVID-19 positive migrants to enter America and our communities at an unprecedented rate putting them all at serious risk. What’s worse is the fact that migrants are entering this country with incomplete background checks. These policies are dangerous for America. We must get back to putting Americans first by enforcing the rule of law and punishing those who circumvent it.
