Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Tonight, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) issued the following statement after President Biden addressed a Joint Session of Congress:

“Tonight, President Biden laid out a bold plan to overcome this pandemic and build back an economy that is stronger and more equitable for all Americans.

“From day one, President Biden has been laser-focused on fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and making sure live-saving vaccines are readily available to all who want one. Because of the success of our nationwide vaccination effort, including over 200 million shots so far, we’ve made progress towards our ultimate goal of defeating this virus and getting back to the things we love to do. We must continue to follow the science and recommendations of public health experts so we can safely reopen our economy and save as many lives as possible.

“We also must address the issues of economic inequality that this pandemic has exposed and exacerbated. Since taking office in January, President Biden has worked with Congress to take aggressive action to address the economic pain this pandemic has caused for hard working American families and small businesses that have faced the brunt of the economic consequences. Now is the time for robust investments to build an economy that is more resilient and equitable–which is the focus of the President’s American Families Plan and American Jobs Plan, plans that meet the needs of families today and invest in the economic future of our country.

“In addition to economic reforms, we need to take action to strengthen and expand health care coverage, reform a broken immigration system, fight the gun violence epidemic, combat climate change, and protect the right to vote.

“There is a lot of work to do. I look forward to working with President Biden, Vice President Harris, and my colleagues in Congress to deliver meaningful reforms that address the challenges the American people sent us here to tackle.”
