Hoyer Announces Subcategory Winners of 2022 Member Online All-Star Competition

“I love to see our Members using novel and creative ways to connect with constituents about our ongoing critical work of House Democrats in Congress,” said Leader Hoyer. “I would like to congratulate our winners for their impressive digital products that show the best of Members engaging with constituents online.”
The overall winners of the 2022 House Democrats’ Online All-Star Competition were announced in late July, with Rep. Elaine Luria (VA-02) winning the 2022 Overall MVP award, Rep. Deborah Ross (NC-02) winning the 2022 Freshman MVP award, and Rep. Jamie Raskin (MD-08) winning the 2022 Election-Blackout MVP Award.
NOTE: Members of Leadership from Caucus Vice Chair and up are ineligible for the awards. Former winners of each category are listed below and ineligible to win the same category a second time.
This year’s subcategory winners and finalists are as follows:
BEST GIF
WINNER: Rep. Jamie Raskin (MD-08) highlights the power Trump’s words hold on extremists in a phenomenally paced GIF showing what’s at stake.
OTHER FINALISTS:
- Rep. Joyce Beatty (OH-03) promotes reproductive rights in a post-Roe Ohio by sharing resources over a beautiful GIF of an everchanging Ohio.
- Rep. Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) celebrates 713 Day -- Houston's unofficial holiday -- with an impressively edited GIF featuring the “713” behind various Texas landmarks.
- Rep. Susie Lee (NV-03) bolts past the competition in a creatively engaging mountain bike GIF promoting her BOLT Act.
- New Democrat Coalition celebrates their 25th anniversary with a virtual “group photo” of current NDC members.
BEST VIDEO
WINNER: Judiciary Committee Democrats created a powerful video showing how assault weapons were always designed for combat.
OTHER FINALISTS:
- Rep. Raul Grijalva (AZ-03) shows how a modern Congressional town hall could be filmed and shared with the public for maximum effect.
- Rep. Dean Phillips (MN-03) weaves news clips and original content into a compelling video promoting his Porch Pirates Act.
- Rep. Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) showcases the power of Instagram Reels’ captioning feature to address the student debt crisis.
- Rep. Lauren Underwood (IL-14) masterfully uses a popular trend and sound to promote the CHIPS and Science Act to an entirely new audience.
BEST GRAPHIC
WINNER: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) demands that Democrats fight to defend everyone's rights in an effective quote graphic.
OTHER FINALISTS:
- Rep. Angie Craig (MN-02) promotes her "Right to Contraception Act" with an artistic pill box graphic.
- Rep. Ruben Gallego (AZ-07) sounds the alarm on threats to interracial and same-sex marriage, and access to contraception.
- Rep. Jahana Hayes (CT-05) declares "Abortion is Health Care" with an attractive collage of photos of her meeting with women and health care professionals.
- Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-08) celebrates the Islamic New Year with a beautiful holiday graphic.
BEST ONLINE AD
WINNER: Rep. Josh Harder (CA-10) is meeting his constituents where they are with creative ads on gas pump video screens telling them what he's doing to fight inflation and rising gas prices.
OTHER FINALISTS:
- Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-08) stands with Ukraine in a fast-paced well edited ad demonstrating his ongoing support during the war.
- Rep. Katie Porter (CA-45) promotes the her efforts against against price gouging with a quick to the point Facebook ad.
- Rep. Ritchie Torres (NY-15) makes sure his constituents see a local news clip of his critical work in Congress.
- Rep. David Trone (MD-06) polls his constituents on Facebook with a simple one question survey on inflation.
BEST CONSTITUENT SERVICES POST
WINNER: Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06) represents her community (and her dog Libby) with an ad promoting the community funding projects she secured through appropriations.
OTHER FINALISTS:
- Rep. Salud Carbajal (CA-24) tells his constituents that they "Better Call Salud" with any issues they have with the federal government.
- Rep. Joaquin Castro (TX-20) highlights the Texas Homeowner Assistance Program with a poster promoting the help it can provide constituents who are struggling financially.
- Rep. Henry Cuellar (TX-28) makes a phenomenal poster highlighting where his appropriations funding will be heading in the district.
- Rep. Tom Malinowski (NJ-07) utilizes social media and a well-produced video ad to promote his appropriations wins.
BEST DIRECT COMMUNICATION
WINNER: Lucy McBath (GA-06) stands up for voter rights with a versatile video promoting the John Lewis Voting Rights Act shared through a Franked email.
OTHER FINALISTS:
- Rep. Karen Bass (CA-37) shares relief with California homeowners with an expertly formatted and stylized Franked mail piece.
- Rep. Kathy Castor (FL-14) made an impressive infographic map of all the community funding projects she secured through appropriations for her district.
- Rep. David Cicilline (RI-01) uses a very sleekly designed Franked email to promote his annual senior resource fair.
- Rep. Doris Matsui (CA-06) expertly advertises all the various services her staff provides constituents through a professional Franked mail piece.
BEST E-NEWSLETTER
WINNER: Rep. Joe Neguse (CO-02) uses catchy subject lines and clean design to showcase his work to his constituents.
OTHER FINALISTS:
- Rep. Sharice Davids (KS-03) makes her newsletter a one-stop shop for the community by compiling her accomplishments and various community resources.
- Rep. Donald Norcross (NJ-01) highlights the power of creativity with his newsletter by compiling his work in a very modern and exciting newsletter.
- Rep. Abigail Spanberger (VA-07) thinks out of the box by putting together a newsletter that’s both easy to read and exciting to follow.
- Rep. Greg Stanton (AZ-09) compiles his team’s work in a tremendously designed eNewsletter.
