WINTERSMITH, James G., a Doorkeeper from Texas; born in Shelbyville, Shelby County, Ky., March 18, 1849; graduated from Washington College, 1869; camp aide in the Confederate Army; lawyer; newspaper publisher; clerk to the Commerce Committee of the United States House of Representatives; elected Doorkeeper of the U.S. House of Representatives to the Forty-eighth Congress until his death on July 14, 1885, (December 4, 1883–July 14, 1885); died on July 14, 1885, in Louisville, Ky.
