Coronavirus

COVID-19 is a respiratory illness that can spread from person to person. The virus that causes COVID-19 is a novel coronavirus. 

The following symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure.

-Fever
-Cough 
-Shortness of breath
-Fatigue
-Muscle or body aches
-Headache
-New loss of taste or smell
-Congestion or runny nose
-Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea 

The best way to protect yourself and your community is to get vaccinated. Visit Vaccines.gov to get vaccinated. 

At-home COVID-19 tests will be available at CovidTests.gov and will be mailed directly to American households for free. Tests will typically ship within 7-12 days of ordering, and be delivered First Class through the U.S. Postal Service.

In response to the spread of COVID-19, Congress has passed multiple bills into law to assist individuals and small businesses with effects of this pandemic. H.R. 6074, the Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act, H.R. 6201, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, and H.R. 748, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, the FY 2021 Appropriations legislation which included another pandemic relief package, and most recently the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. Together, these laws dramatically expand critical financial lifelines for families, establish new benefits and protections for workers, create new tools for small businesses to meet payroll and other expenses, and provide relief for students and schools.

Situation in Virginia

Getting vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself and your community. Everyone ages 5 and up now qualify for vaccinations, and everyone ages 18 and up are eligible for boosters at the recommended time. The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention recommends everyone ages 18 and older get a booster shot either when they are 6 months after their initial Pfizer or Moderna vaccine series or 2 months after their initial Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Virginians can visit Vaccinate.Virginia.gov to get their first, second and third dose. If you do not live in Virginia, you can use Vaccines.gov.

IF YOU FEEL SICK with fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, you should get tested for COVID-19. 

If you are sick with COVID-19 or suspect you are infected with the virus that causes COVID-19, follow the steps below to help prevent the disease from spreading to people in your home and community. People who are mildly ill with COVID-19 are able to isolate at home during their illness. WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Chairman Scott (VA-03) as well as members of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Reps. Barbara Lee (CA-13) and Lois Frankel (FL-21) sent a letter to the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) requesting that the GAO conduct a study on minors under 18 years of age who serve as a primary or secondary caregiver for a family member, also known as caregiving youth. “Many caregiving youth assist parents or other relatives who are also caregiving. These youth face challenges balancing their caregiving responsibilities with their education, mental health, and wellbeing, yet they often do not have access to the resources and services available to adult family caregivers or other vulnerable youth populations, which are already limited,” the lawmakers wrote.
