Our small business owners are the engines that drive investment in our neighborhoods, and spur economic development, block by block.
One of the first bills I introduced in Congress is H.R. 1702, the Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) Improvement Act of 2017. The Small Business Development Centers Improvement Act of 2017 is a bipartisan bill that amends the Small Business Act to improve the SBDC program nationwide. My bill specifically amends the Small Business Act to provide a variety of services including: grants, financial assistance, loans, export assistance, subcontracting opportunities on federal contracts to specific business owners, and other critical services to our small businesses.
In the House of Representatives I am a member of the House Small Business Committee, where is serve as the Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax and Capital Access and the Subcommittee on Contracting and the Workforce. In cooperation with the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), the National Urban League launched a multi-city Jobs and Justice tour. During the tour, the National Urban League and its local affiliates will lead a series of town hall discussions about policies that will increase the upward social mobility of African-American families, and help ensure equal protection under the law. The town hall discussions will also focus on how African-Americans can use their voice and vote to change their communities and the country.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 25, 2017) –Today, Congressman Dwight Evans (PA-02) introduced the Small Business Innovation Protection Act of 2017 to provide our small business owners and entrepreneurs with the resources they need to be successful in the 21st century economy.

The MBDA supports our small and minority-owned businesses that create jobs and drive investment into our neighborhoods by allowing our entrepreneurs grow, innovate, and prosper.
Congressman Dwight Evans (PA-03) today announced a $304,475 federal grant for The Enterprise Center in West Philadelphia to help minority-owned and operated businesses in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.
The organization will use the funding for its Minority Business Development Agency Business Center-Pennsylvania, which focuses on maximizing job creation for minority business entrepreneurs in the three states, said Evans, vice chair of the House Small Business Committee.
Today, U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-ID) and U.S. Representative Steve Chabot (R-OH), chairmen of the Senate and House Small Business Committees, introduced bipartisan, bicameral legislation to improve cybersecurity resources for small businesses. The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Cyber Training Act will be a priority in each respective committee.
