WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04) voted for historic legislation that will reinstate the assault weapons ban, a key action to ensure safer communities for Georgians by preventing gun violence and keeping weapons of war off our streets. He previously voted the bill out of Judiciary Committee earlier in July to help get the bill to the House floor for a full vote.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04) voted to empower communities to prevent incidents of gun violence before they occur. The Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act empowers family members and law enforcement to seek a federal court order to temporarily remove access to guns from those who pose a danger to themselves or others, while incentivizing states to adopt their own so-called “red flag laws.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Rep. Hank Johnson (GA-04) released the following statement on President Biden’s signing of an executive order to advance effective, accountable policing on the second anniversary of the death of George Floyd:
"I’m grieving for the lives lost and shattered by yet another instance of senseless and horrific gun violence.
The uniquely American experiment of putting more and more guns into the hands of the “good guys” to solve the problem of gun violence has been a disastrous failure, and innocent victims are paying the price with their lives.
It’s time to acknowledge reality and end this horrific experiment, and for Congress to pass legislation banning the manufacture and sale of assault weapons to the general public.
