HOUSE COMMITTEE ON THE JUDICIARY

The House Committee on the Judiciary has jurisdiction over matters relating to the administration of justice in federal courts, administrative bodies, and law enforcement agencies.. Any legislation that carries a possibility for criminal or civil penalties can be referred to the committee, so its legislative workload is substantial. The committee’s weighty agenda has frequently placed it in a central role in American politics, most notably during its consideration of impeachment charges against presidents of the United States.

HOUSE COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION AND LABOR

The House Committee on Education and Labor oversees programs that affect all Americans, from early learning and higher education to job training and retirement security. Important programs and policies that fall within the committee’s jurisdiction include: the Higher Education Act, the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), and more.

HOUSE COMMITTEE ON SMALL BUSINESS

The House Committee on Small Business was originally established as a select committee in response to a growing number of small businesses advocating for more protections and better government policies for America’s small businesses. On January 5, 1975, Congress made it a permanent standing committee. The committee supports new and small businesses by offering tools they need to grow and run their business.
