Project Federal Information Technology: Make IT Work
Chairman Gerry Connolly's Opening Statement [PDF]
On Friday, September 16, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. ET, Rep. Gerald E. Connolly, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Government Operations, will hold a hybrid hearing with the Federal Chief Information Officer (FCIO)—who is responsible for promoting innovative IT uses and overseeing federal technology spending across government—to examine the current state of the federal government’s information technology modernization strategy.
In June 2022, the FCIO published the Information Technology Operating Plan (ITOP), which lays out a roadmap for government to deploy technology that is more secure, less expensive, and more user-friendly, and that delivers modern government services. The plan is focused on four key priorities: cybersecurity, IT modernization, a digital-first customer experience, and using data as a strategic asset.
This hearing will be an opportunity for Members to explore the progress the Biden Administration has made in implementing the ITOP and to better understand the federal government’s IT modernization needs now and in the future.
