Washington, DC

In the Washington, D.C. office, internships run throughout the fall, spring, and summer semesters for college students and recent graduates. Office hours are 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on voting days, and from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. when Congress is out of session and during committee work weeks. During the academic year, hours can be modified to accommodate students’ course schedules.

Interns will work primarily with D.C.-based staff performing legislative and administrative work. Tasks include answering phones, sorting and drafting responses to constituent correspondence, attending briefings/hearings, performing legislative research, and supporting staff members on various projects. Ideal candidates should be professional and possess excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to public service and progressive values. All interns will be paid $15 an hour unless they are funded through an outside program.

District

In the District office, internships run throughout the fall, spring, or summer semesters for college students. Work hours generally run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. During the academic years, hours can be modified to accommodate students’ course schedules. The District  Interns may be asked to do a variety of things, including day-to-day office work such as answering phones, writing letters, and assisting with media clips. In addition, interns may be assigned to assist in various constituent casework or work on District-based projects of importance.

Applicants must be undergraduate students who have completed at least one-quarter of college. While most internships are unpaid, thanks to recent legislation, some funds are now available for paid internships and transportation stipends to interns who are currently enrolled in academic programs.
