Earlier this year, Congress passed the American Rescue Plan Act, which expanded the Child Tax Credit for working and middle class families across the United States. The bill increased the credit to up to $3,600 per child, and made other important changes. On July 15, families started to receive half of the increased credit as advance monthly payments of up to $300 per child, which will continue through the end of the year. The Child Tax Credit payments are providing American families with much-needed relief.
