WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) today spoke on the Senate floor to hail passage of a resolution that would stop implementation of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) flawed “waters of the United States” (WOTUS) rule.

“Arkansans understand we don’t need DC bureaucrats controlling our land. That is why I stand with the homeowners, small businesses and family farmers in Arkansas in opposition to the WOTUS mandate. Passage of this resolution today reflects the American people’s rejection of this heavy-handed mandate and shows our commitment to a balanced and thoughtful approach to water quality protection. Congress needs to send this resolution to the President. The President needs to understand the opposition this power-grab is facing is very real,” Boozman said during his speech.

Background: By a vote of 53-44, the Senate passed S.J.Res.22, a joint resolution of disapproval of the WOTUS rule. If passed by the U.S. House of Representatives and signed by the President, the resolution would nullify the WOTUS rule. Senator Boozman is an original cosponsor of S.J.Res.22.

Senate Democrats yesterday blocked consideration of the Federal Water Quality Protection Act, which would rein in EPA overreach and gives the EPA direction to write a rule that protects our waters without eroding the rights of landowners. Boozman is also an original cosponsor of the Federal Water Quality Protection Act.

Last month, a U.S. Circuit Court ruling extended an earlier injunction by a federal district court that blocked implementation in 13 states, including Arkansas. The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals extended the earlier injunction to all 50 states.
