Washington, D.C. -- Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Ranking Member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, issued the statement below regarding a new report published by the oldest, and one of the most renowned, international medical journals - the Lancet. The report titled "2015 Lancet Commission on Health and Climate Change: Policy Responses to Protect Public Health," reaffirms the severe threat that climate change poses to public health worldwide and concludes that addressing climate change could be the greatest global health opportunity of the 21st century.

Senator Boxer said: "The Lancet report reaffirms once again that we must take steps that will allow us to protect the health of our children and families worldwide. Climate change deniers in Congress need to stop ignoring the serious repercussions of unmitigated climate change, such as extreme heat and weather events, and work with us to reduce dangerous pollution and address this serious threat to public health."
