Washington, D.C. - Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, issued the following statement concerning new reports that the General Services Administration (GSA) spent nearly $270,000 of taxpayer money on a lavish one-day awards ceremony in 2010.

Senator Boxer said: "In light of this new outrageous situation, I am pleased that the President moved quickly to put new, strong leadership at GSA and that the agency's leadership is moving swiftly to change the corrosive culture, which unfortunately spans multiple Administrations."

In the wake of previous revelations of misconduct at GSA, the EPW Committee has conducted oversight, including a hearing in April on the Inspector General's report on GSA mismanagement, and the Committee will continue to provide oversight to ensure that proposed reforms are implemented.
