MONTGOMERY, James Shera, a House Chaplain; born in Mount Carmel, Franklin County, Ind., October 19, 1862; attended Muncie Academy, Muncie, Ind.; reporter; actor; attended DePauw University, Greencastle, In.; attended Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill., 1892; attended Oxford University, Oxford, United Kingdom; D.D., Garrett Bible Institute, Evanston, Ill., 1900; ordained as a Methodist minister in 1892; pastor; elected Chaplain of the United States House of Representatives to the Sixty-seventh and to the fourteen succeeding Congresses (April 11, 1921–January 30, 1950); Chaplain Emeritus of the United States House of Representatives, 1950–1952; died on June 30, 1952, in Washington, D.C.; interment in Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, Md.
