The COVID-19 pandemic exposed and exacerbated long-standing health disparities. As he has throughout his career, Congressman Clyburn continues fighting to make healthcare accessible and affordable for all Americans.

The American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act of 2021 built on the success of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) by lowering or eliminating health insurance premiums for millions of lower- and middle-income families enrolled in health insurance marketplaces.  The ARP also provided more than $15 million to 21 community health centers in South Carolina. This money improves healthcare infrastructure and increases access to state-of-the-art medical facilities.

Congressman Clyburn is committed to continuing this progress by closing the coverage gap in the 12 states that have refused to participate in the ACA’s Medicaid expansion.  He included a provision in the House-passed Build Back Better Act that would enable uninsured low-income Americans in these states to sign up for cost-free plans on the ACA marketplaces.

Healthcare resources such as these are the lifelines for communities making free and low-cost access to testing, vaccines, and treatments obtainable. These policies help individuals from rural and underrepresented communities get the care they deserve.
