Boxer Statement on the G-8 Global Warming Agreement

Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, today made the following remarks regarding the climate change agreement released at the G8 Summit in Heiligendamm, Germany:

Senator Boxer said: “Given President Bush’s opposition to strong action on global warming, it is remarkable that Chancellor Merkel was even able to get the President to agree to the G8 climate change statement released today.  However, the G-8 statement does not reflect the real-world need to move decisively on mandatory carbon reductions.  I am convinced that as the political landscape continues to change in the United States, the G-8 will be able to reach an agreement that reflects the reality and urgency of the global warming challenge.”
