Washington, DC —  Senator John Thune today announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded the Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux Tribe an Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) in the amount of $3,513,772.

"This important funding will increase the quality, safety, and availability of affordable housing for the families of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux Tribe," Thune said. "Constructing new, dependable housing or helping existing renters or homeowners make repairs to their homes will boost the quality of life and safety throughout the Sisseton-Wahpeton community."

The IHBG funding is approved under the under the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act of 1996. These funds can be used for a variety of eligible affordable housing activities, which may include operating assistance; development of affordable housing that may include new construction, acquisition, modernization, or rehabilitation of rental or owner-occupied housing; housing services; housing management for low-income housing; and/or crime prevention safety.
