How the FBI Works with Businesses

The Office of Private Sector (OPS) oversees the Bureau's vital engagement and information-sharing efforts with businesses, academia, and industry. Part of the Intelligence Branch, OPS works to enhance the FBI's understanding of the private sector's risks and needs; increases collaboration and information-sharing between the Bureau and the private sector; and mitigates threats through longstanding, mutually beneficial partnerships.

Partners in Prevention: Vehicle Rentals and Vehicle Ramming

The FBI, DHS, and TSA—in coordination with the Truck Renting and Leasing Association and the American Car Rental Association—have released a short training video to help vehicle rental employees identify suspicious activities and behavior by customers who may wish to use a rented vehicle for nefarious purposes.

DSAC is a strategic partnership that enhances timely communication and effective exchange of security and intelligence information between the federal government and the private sector. InfraGard

InfraGard is a partnership between the FBI and members of the private sector. The InfraGard program provides a vehicle for seamless public-private collaboration with government that expedites the timely exchange of information and promotes mutual learning opportunities relevant to the protection of critical infrastructure. Private Sector Coordinators

Each field office has a private sector coordinator. The private sector coordinators:

  • build trusting relationships with private industry on emerging FBI mission priorities
  • enhance the FBI’s understanding of the private sector’s risks and needs
  • increase collaboration and information sharing between the FBI and the private sector
  • identify strategic engagement opportunities with U.S. companies and associations
  • build mutually beneficial relationships between FBI leaders and key private sector executives

Each field office has an academia coordinator who partners with local colleges and universities to safeguard U.S. economic and national security. Coordinators work closely with OPS, academia, and other federal partners to help protect and preserve the innovation, cutting-edge research, and intellectual property being created on U.S. campuses.
