I’m proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish for the Grand Strand and the Pee Dee throughout my time in Congress, including:

  • Representing South Carolina on the Ways & Means Committee. I’m the first Representative from South Carolina to earn a spot on this prestigious committee in 40 years. As the 8th ranking member on the Ways & Means Committee, I played a key role in passing the first tax reform legislation in three decades.

  • Cutting Red Tape. I have worked hard to cut through the federal bureaucracy and helped over 12,000 constituents with cases since taking office.

  • Helping our Veterans. I’ve helped 1 in 16 Veterans of the 7th District with cases related to the VA.

  • Advancing Interstate 73. I-73 is vital to the 7th District and I have worked hard to advance this project through collaboration with the Army Corps of Engineers, Federal Highway Administration, South Carolina Department of Transportation, and local leaders. Now, we have the permit in hand to begin construction and are focused on securing all funding necessary to make this interstate a reality.

  • Providing Disaster Relief Funding. Following devastating disasters that resulted in historic flooding, I helped secure more than $200 million in federal aid to help the 7th District recover.

  • Securing funds for Beach Renourishment. Beaches are the lifeblood of the Grand Strand, so it’s important that after storms and hurricanes they are properly restored. I’ve worked to secure more than $80 million for renourishment of beaches along the Grand Strand to complete the Myrtle Beach Shore Protection Project.

  • Securing Farmers Recovery Aid. After the “thousand-year floods” caused by Hurricane Joaquin and subsequent storms, I helped secure $130 million for farmers to rebuild.

  • Facilitating the Dillon Inland Port. My office and I played a role in facilitating an inland port in Dillon, which serves as an extension of the Port of Charleston. Since its opening, the port has brought more than 1,000 jobs and economic investment to the entire Pee Dee region.

  • Championing Workforce Development. My team and I have hosted two workforce development summits at the Dillon Inland Port to help connect students with technical school opportunities and jobs in our area. I brought U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos to the 7th District to see the success of localized education initiatives and discuss workforce development programs.

  • Leading the way in town halls. My title is Representative and I can’t do my job unless I hear from you. I tied for 13th out of 535 members of Congress in number of in-person town hall events hosted from 2015 – 2017. In 2021, I’ve hosted 16 town halls to hear directly from folks in the 7th District, including 9 in-person town halls.

  • Securing COVID-19 Relief. I voted for the CARES Act, which sent $1.9 billion to South Carolina to help provide relief to Americans amid the raging pandemic in March of 2020.  Since then, the Paycheck Protection Program has helped more than 150,000 small businesses in South Carolina keep workers on the payroll.

  • Funding Broadband Infrastructure Projects. I helped secure over $11 million for Broadband Infrastructure in the 7th District. Broadband is an invaluable resource for schools, businesses, and families in the 7th District, particularly in rural areas.

  • Introducing the STOP Resolution. As a freshman Congressman, I introduced the Stop This Overreaching Presidency (STOP) Resolution, which directed the House of Representatives to bring a civil action lawsuit challenging certain policies and actions taken by President Obama that were overreaching and outside of his jurisdiction as president. It was later modified, taken up as a bill by Speaker John Boehner, and passed by the House of Representatives in 2014 to authorize a lawsuit challenging the employer mandate provision of Obamacare. In 2016, the D.C. Federal District Court ruled in favor of the House of Representatives in this lawsuit that was based on my resolution. Learn more

  • Fighting for Pro-Life Values: I’ve been recognized for my 100% pro-life voting record throughout my Congressional career.

  • Saving more than $1 million in taxpayer money. Since taking office, I have left more than 1 million in unused taxpayer dollars in my office budget and have sent the funds back to the U.S. Treasury.
