SC Delegation Stands Proudly with Our Nation’s Veterans

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Tom Rice (R-S.C.) last week joined members of the South Carolina federal delegation in issuing a joint statement in support of exempting from state taxes the retirement income of military veterans, as proposed by Governor McMaster in his Executive Budget Proposal for FY23.

Issued by Rep. Tom Rice (SC-07), Rep. Ralph Norman (SC-5), Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), Rep. James Clyburn (SC-06), Rep. Joe Wilson (SC-02), Rep. Jeff Duncan (SC-03), Rep. William Timmons (SC-04), and Rep. Nancy Mace (SC-01), the statement reads:

“We applaud Governor McMaster for once again including in his executive budget the elimination of the state tax on military retirement pay. South Carolina proudly stands with our veterans, and our state leaders must demonstrate this by fully protecting their retirement pay. South Carolina would join over thirty other states that have adopted this policy with great results. We urge the General Assembly to approve this proposal to ensure South Carolina continues to be known as a great destination for veterans.”
