SAN MATEO, CA - Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-San Francisco/San Mateo)  and San Mateo County Supervisor Adrienne Tissier will roll up their sleeves with volunteers on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 to clean up Magic Mountain Playground in the Coyote Recreation Area in San Mateo. Speier is a strong proponent of volunteer work and started “Speier Corps” at her last Job Hunter Boot Camp, a workshop that helps job seekers enter or re-enter the job market.

Speier stated, “Every day I meet people who want to make a contribution and give their time for good causes. Volunteering is one of the most rewarding and effective ways to give back to our community and that’s why I started Speier Corps. It is also a great way to network and meet people which could lead to a new job.”

Volunteers are asked to spend 2-3 hours and help weed, plant, spread mulch or paint picnic tables. They are asked to come prepared to work in the dirt or get paint on their clothing. The park will provide all necessary equipment, including gloves and tools, and water and snacks.

Members of the press are welcome and should tell the ranger at the Coyote Point gatehouse that they are attending the Speier volunteer event. Parking is available.
