SAN MATEO, CA - Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-San Francisco/San Mateo) sent a letter to Paul Clannon, Executive Director of the California Public Utilities Commission on Tuesday, August 21, 2012, requesting that “the commission adopt a principle of analysis. This principle could be stated as follows: Mistake-driven expenses should be paid for by shareholders.”

In the letter Speier points out that PG&E was paid by ratepayers to create a safe and reliable gas pipeline system and failed to do so. She concludes that very few of the costs should be borne by the ratepayers.

On March 20, 2012, Speier sent an initial letter to Clannon addressing the cost-sharing of PG&E’s proposed gas pipeline renovation plan between ratepayers and shareholders.
