Washington, D.C.— Rep. Tom Rice (SC-07) issued the following statement today regarding the House passage of H.R. 2217 , the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act of 2014:

“The legislation my colleagues and I passed today ensures that the federal government secures our Nation in a financially responsible way.  By enacting sensible spending cuts and eliminating ineffective programs, we were able to save hardworking Americans money and supply the Department of Homeland Security with the resources they need to be successful.  Furthermore, this bill also stops erroneous premium increases to federal flood insurance programs and repairs security weaknesses identified after the Boston Marathon attacks.”

H.R. 2217 passed the U.S. House of Representatives with a bipartisan vote of 245-182.
