MEALS FOR K-12 STUDENTS
STATE RESOURCES
During the current school closure, the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) is offering three to-go meals a day to all children under the age of 18, without charge. MSDE has hundreds of meal distribution centers across the state. Click here to find a meal distribution site in your community.

ONLINE LEARNING RESOURCES
As education shifts from at-school and at-office to in-home to prevent the spread of COVID-19, internet providers are working to provide unlimited data, boost internet speeds, open up WiFi hotspot networks to the public, and waiving late charges. Many internet providers now have payment plans and have agreed to not terminate service for customers affected financially by the pandemic. Smithsonian Institute: The Smithsonian Institute created a digital resource guide for students here. This guide includes:
- Smithsonian Learning Lab: An interactive platform for discovering millions of authentic digital resources
- Smithsonian Open Access: A free photo archive for students
- Smithsonian Digital Volunteers Program: An online program to contribute to historical documents
- Sidedoor: A podcast from the Smithsonian
Library of Congress: The Library of Congress also created a resource guide here. This guide includes:
- Student Discovery Sets: A resource of primary source documents
- Current Exhibitions: A collection on online exhibitions
- Digital Collections: Includes content from U.S. Presidents, musicians, inventors, historic newspapers and more
- By the People: A volunteer program to contribute to historical documents and artifacts
- Classic Children’s Books: A collection available free online
- The Library of Congress’ YouTube channel: Contains a wide range of author programming, as well as content from scholars and musicians.
- Ask a Librarian: A virtual tool for the public
- The Library’s National Screening Room: Showcases the Library’s vast moving image collection.

- Maryland Public Television (MPT), WETA, and Howard University Television (WHUT) created the “At-Home Learning” initiative, a public TV program consisting of 11 hours of educational programs. You can learn more about the initiative here and live stream the programs here.

STUDENT LOAN BORROWER RELIEF
- COVID-19 Emergeny Relief Flexibilities for federal student loans were extended through at least September 30, 2021, including suspension of loan payments, stopped collections on defaulted loans, and a 0% interest rate.
