Health Care

In Congress, Rep. Elaine Luria has fought to preserve, strengthen, and expand health care coverage under the Affordable Care Act to ensure that every American can easily access quality, affordable care and services when they need it. She has also been an advocate for reducing the cost of care and prescription drugs, including voting to cap the out-of-pocket price of insulin.

Rep. Luria has been a leader in expanding health care coverage and benefits for our military families and veterans. She introduced H.R. 475, the Health Care Fairness for Military Families Act, a bipartisan bill to allow children of military families to stay on a parent’s health insurance plan until the age of 26. This provision, required for civilian health care plans, does not apply to TRICARE, costing military families hundreds of dollars each month in health insurance payments.

In March of 2022, Rep. Luria advanced the Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act to broaden the definition of toxic exposure, expand access to comprehensive health care services covered, and strengthen benefits for veterans were exposed to toxic substances during their service. The PACT Act included two of Rep. Luria’s bills, the COVENANT Act and the Veterans Disability Claims Notification Improvement Act, both of which help to ensure that veterans have the health care and benefits they deserve.

Rep. Luria is also a strong proponent of the Elijah E. Cummings Lower Drugs Costs Now Act, which would lower the costs of prescription drugs by giving Medicare the power to negotiate directly with drug companies.

Affordable and accessible health care for all Americans is a top priority for Rep. Luria. She will continue to fight for quality health care services for Coastal Virginians, our military families, and our veterans in Congress.
