Congresswoman Elaine Luria Introduces Bill to Ensure Cost-Of-Living Adjustment for Veterans

February 25, 2019

Legislation Would Also Assist Survivors of Veterans

WASHINGTON – In order to ensure our nation's veterans receive the benefits they have earned, House Veterans' Affairs Subcommittee on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs (DAMA) Chairwoman Elaine Luria (VA-02) introduced a bipartisan bill to provide a cost-of-living adjustment to veterans.

The legislation is cosponsored by DAMA Ranking Member Rep. Mike Bost (IL-12).

"Our veterans put their lives on the line to keep America safe, and I remain committed to ensuring they receive the benefits they have earned," Congresswoman Luria said. "I'm honored to champion a cost-of-living adjustment for our nation's veterans. I look forward to working with DAMA Ranking Member Bost to get this critical bill through Congress and signed by the President."

A 20-year Navy veteran who retired at the rank of Commander, Congresswoman Luria has made advocating for veterans a top priority.

As introduced by Congresswoman Luria, the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) Act would provide cost-of-living increases for wartime disability compensation; compensation for dependents; clothing allowance; dependency and indemnity compensation to surviving spouses; and dependency and indemnity compensation to children.

Any increase would begin Dec. 1.

Congresswoman Elaine Luria represents Virginia's 2nd Congressional District. She serves on the House Armed Services Committee, where she is the Vice Chair of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, and the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs, where she serves as Chair of the Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs Subcommittee.
