Internships - Washington, DC


Summer 2023 internships in our Washington, DC office will be in-person.

The deadline for Spring applications is end of day Wednesday November 30th. This is a paid position and accepted applicants will receive a stipend.

The Office of Rep. Josh Harder offers paid Spring internships in our Washington office. Our hands-on internship program offers highly motivated undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates the opportunity to gain real-world experience in government and politics. Over the course of their service, interns will gain a deeper knowledge of the federal government and strengthen their communications, writing, problem-solving, and time-management skills. This program is structured to prepare our interns for a future career in government.

Our Spring intern class generally falls under the following timeline:

  • Spring Internships: January through end of April

We do our best to accommodate requirements for college credit.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will vary but may include:

  • Communicating with constituents through mail, email, and over the phone;
  • Staffing the front desk and greeting visitors;
  • Conducting research to be used for floor speeches, memos, committee hearings, and other legislative business;
  • Monitoring press coverage, current events, and House business;
  • Preparing news clippings for the legislative and communications staff;
  • Helping process flag and tour requests;
  • Attending briefings and hearings; and
  • Administrative tasks as assigned.

Internships - District Office


The Office of Rep. Josh Harder offers one paid internship in our District office throughout the fall, spring, and summer terms. Our hands-on internship program offers highly motivated undergraduates and recent graduates the opportunity to gain real-world experience in government and politics. Over the course of their service, interns will gain a deeper knowledge of the federal government and strengthen their communications, writing, problem-solving, and time-management skills. Our paid intern in the district office will have an emphasis in working alongside our Casework team and serve as a liaison with federal agencies.

We also have the option to assist our office with our regular internship. Interns may be asked to do a variety of things, including day-to-day office work such as answering phones, writing letters, and assisting with media clips. In addition, interns may be assigned to assist in various constituent casework or work on District-based projects of importance.

Responsibilities will vary but may include:

  • Communicating with constituents through mail, email, and over the phone
  • Conducting research to assist the District Representatives with event planning
  • Administrative tasks as assigned
  • May be assigned to district-based projects of importance
  • Serving as a liaison with federal agencies and assisting our constituents with federal casework such as, USPS, VA, Immigration, SSA, etc.
